In 2000, the the Everglades Defense Council was formed to fight against the development of a major commercial airport next to Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. The Council raised over $2 million dollars to increase public awareness and created a lobbying campaign for an environmentally friendly alternative to assist the Homestead area in the redevelopment of the air base and community. David spearheaded the efforts on behalf of the community and worked with Alan Farago to coordinate numerous environmental groups, scientists, consultants, homeowner associations and other stakeholders.
